One of the toughest aspects of blogging is coming up with topics. The easiest way to do that is to sit down periodically (alone or with staff members) and brainstorm a bunch of ideas at once. For inspiration, try these tactics during your brainstorming session:
1. Put yourself in your reader’s shoes. Your posts must focus on what your reader cares about. What do they worry about? What questions do they ask you? When and why do they call you? Write down the top 5 things that come to mind.
2. Consider multiple ways to present the information. The same basic information can become multiple posts by changing the angle, style or format of the piece. For example, take a positive or negative spin, try lists, how-tos, case studies, or charts/infographics.
3. Look at current events and trends. Discuss new developments and how those events or trends may impact your target audience. The key is to provide deeper and ongoing analysis of events so you can really showcase your expertise and have a longer shelf-life for your content.
