USA Luge announces Fall 2024 National Team
National team finishes World Cup season with 14 medals, seven overall top ten finishes
LAKE PLACID, N.Y.— USA Luge recently announced the members of the 2024 National Team. The group features seven Olympic athletes and hopes to build on the team’s success from last season. The team won 14 medals, including two at the World Championships. USA Luge athletes also had eight top ten finishes in the overall World Cup.
Two athletes will be moving up from the Junior National Team to the National Team.
Women’s Doubles
2024 World Championships bronze medalists Chevonne Forgan/Sophia Kirkby will hope to continue their success after finishing the season ranked fifth overall. Forgan (Chelmsford, Mass.)/Kirkby (Ray Brook, N.Y.) had more podium appearances than any other U.S. sled last season, taking home eight medals. That tally includes World Championship silver in the relay and bronze in the doubles races.
Also returning are Maya Chan (Chicago, Ill.)/Reannyn Weiler (Whitesboro, N.Y.). After finishing five races in sixth place, the team looks to hit the podium once again this year after ranking seventh overall.
Men’s Doubles
2023 Lake Placid World Cup champions Zack DiGregorio/Sean Hollander will return to represent the U.S. after posting five top ten finishes throughout the season, including a gold medal at the World Cup opener in Lake Placid. 2022 Olympians DiGregorio (Medway, Mass.)/Hollander (Lake Placid, N.Y.)placed seventh overall in the points standings and were a part of three medal winning relay teams.
Also returning are Dana Kellogg (Chesterfield, Mass.)/Frank Ike (Lititz, Pa.) who were new to the team last season. The duo finished in the top ten on seven occasions and stood on the World Championships podium with a silver medal in the Team Relay in their first season together.
Women’s Singles
2022 Olympian Ashley Farquharson (Park City, Utah), who led the U.S. team during the 2023 World Cup, will return for the 2024-25 season. Season highlights include a World Cup Sprint race silver. She also posted fourth place finishes five times, including at the World Championships. Farquharson also earned two bronze medals in Team Relay action.
Three-time Olympian Summer Britcher (Glen Rock, Pa.) returns to the National Team following a bronze medal performance in the Lake Placid World Cup and a silver medal at the World Championships in the Team Relay.
2018 and 2022 Olympian Emily Sweeney (Lake Placid, N.Y.) returns for her 13th year after placing eighth overall last season. She had success in the World Cup Sprint race format, taking bronze in the Lake Placid and Sigulda, Latvia.
Emma Erickson (Park City, Utah), who participated in both World Cup and Junior World Cup races last season, joins the National Team from the Junior National Team. She was the top ranked U.S. women’s singles sled at the Junior World Championships, where she finished in 12th place.
Men’s Singles
World Cup gold medalist and three-time Olympian Tucker West is returning for this 11th World Cup tour following a consistent season where he placed ninth in the overall rankings. West (Ridgefield, Conn.) earned the title as the fastest start luge athlete in the world after his first-place finish at the 2023 Kick-off Start Competition. He was consistently among the top three starters all season long in all competitions. West helped Team USA earn three medals in the World Cup Relay and a silver medal at the World Championships Relay.
2022 Olympian Johnny Gustafson will continue to chase after his first podium finish in World Cup action. He joined Team USA in taking home the bronze medal at the Winterberg World Cup and finished the season in tenth overall.
Hunter Harris (East Fairfield, Vt.) will return for a second season on the National Team landing in 23rd overall for the season.
2024 Junior World Championships silver medalist Matt Greiner will join the National Team, getting the call up from the Junior National Team. Greiner (Park City, Utah) ranked third overall in the Junior World Cup last year.
The nine-circuit World Cup season will kick-off in Lillehammer, Norway, November 29-December 1, 2024, with the 53rd World Championships scheduled for February 6-9, 2025, in Whistler, Canada.
