FotoFoam proudly announces its fourth exhibition at its new location in the Meatpacking District. The pieces will be on view from Thursday, June11th until July 22nd at 402 W13th Street, New York, New York.

The artwork featured is a diverse sampling by photographers Paul Morris, Ken Silver, Ayla Hibri, Jesse Draxler, Martin Rinman, and Louise Mertens. A gallery, as well as printing and framing shop, FotoFoam is excited to open its new doors to visitors.

His first show displaying with FotoFoam, Paul Morris is one of 41 artists that the gallery represents. Born in Township, NJ, he has always been fascinated about the world around him and seeing it through his lens. “As Paul sees images, his mind immediately starts to restructure and rearrange them. Photography is his way of capturing these images to create his art. For instance, an image of sand being eroded by the ocean is restructured to show the intricate patterns within it. The works on display are cityscapes married with elements of nature to “bring out the collective sound wave of the city.”

Louise Mertens from Belgium and Jesse Draxler from LA are two upandcoming artists whose work spans across various mediums. Mertens explores collage work, digital manipulation, and fashion photography. Draxler’s work intersects with Merten’s in that he also utilizes collage techniques, acrylic paint, and fashion photography. Both with seemingly similar approaches, their work differs in concept and overall look. “Mertens seeks to intrigue her audience. Stepping into dialogue with fashion images through hiding and altering parts of her characters’ faces. There is a simplicity in the contours, in the minimalism of the lines, in its eye for detail.”

Draxler’s work on the other hand i s considered a dark mirror reflecting popular culture, ideas of beauty and identity, the infinity of existence, and the conflicting innerdialogues within us all. Also on display is FotoFoam veteran Ken Silver. He has a wide variety of work that reflects the overall theme of culture and the observation of nature. Silver is fascinated by the inherent luminosity that the environment offers: “The endless variations of color in nature, illuminated by the equally endless variations in the quality of natural light, astonished me then as it astonishes me now.”

In contrast to his portraits from India on the back wall are Ayla Hibri’s masks: compelling snapshots of the human condition. H ibri is displays a collection of portraits of welders in Eritrea who fashion their protective masks from available materials. The final artist on display is Martin Rinman of Stockholm Sweden. Rinmans work “juxtaposes a hyperreal nature with an impossible virtual world that feels oddly organic, inviting us into a mindscape that is uniquely his own”. Rinman’s photographs from his series Sense/Net were taken in 2013 and are just a glimpse into the artist’s diverse range of work. From natural landscapes, to digital painting, to surreal portraits, this photographer was one of the gallery’s first artists under representation and we proudly display a piece from his original series.
