Films by Hirokazu Koreeda and Kiyoshi Kurosawa will be in the cycle named FantAsia, which is reserved for Asian cinematography.

THE BEGINNING AND DIFFICULT YEARS

FEST is an annual film festival held in Belgrade since 1971. The first Festival was held in the cinema hall of “Dom sindikata,” under the slogan “The Brave New World,” and was opened by Robert Altman’s “MASH.”
During the Yugoslav civil war, FEST was not organized in 1993 or in 1994. The Festival was interrupted in 1997 in protest against police brutality on The Branko’s Bridge. At that time, police beat the FEST’s public in an attempt to stop a demonstration against Slobodan Milosevich.

As for Serbian movies, at the forthcoming Belgrade festival ready for the screen will be “Maradona par Kusturica” by Emir Kusturica, “Zone of the Death” by Milan Todorovi? and Milan Konjovi?, “El Hombre“ by Aleksandar Bulat i Petar Krstev, as well as Darko Logulov’s film “Here and There” which will close FEST.

Tickets will be available starting on February 2nd. The prices are similar to last year’s: from 150 to 250 dinars, except for the opening evening when tickets will cost 400 dinars.

U vreme gra?anskog rata u Jugoslaviji, FEST nije organizovan 1993. i 1994. godine.
